Wilson Chin is an award-winning set designer based in New York City, born and raised in Redwood City, CA.
Wilson designed the critically-acclaimed Broadway play Next Fall, nominated for two Tony Awards, including Best Play. He is the production designer for the feature film Pass Over directed by Spike Lee and produced by Amazon Studios. He made his debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago with Lucia di Lammermoor and won the Dora Award for A Florentine Tragedy and Gianni Schicchi at Canadian Opera Company.
In New York, Wilson has designed at Ars Nova, Atlantic Theater Company, Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, Naked Angels, Playwrights Horizons, Playwrights Realm, Primary Stages, The Public Theater, Roundabout Theatre Company, and Second Stage. Regional credits include designs at the Alliance Theatre, Arena Stage, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Denver Center Theatre, Geffen Playhouse, Goodspeed Musicals, Guthrie Theatre, Hartford Stage, Huntington Theatre Company, La Jolla Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre, The Old Globe, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Signature Theatre, Steppenwolf, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Yale Repertory Theatre.
His collaborations with writers and composers include world premieres by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Nick Blaemire, Sam Carner and Derek Gregor, Julia Cho, Joe DiPietro, Larissa FastHorse, Ricardo Pérez González, Samuel D. Hunter, Elizabeth Irwin, Rolin Jones, Hansol Jung, Meghan Kennedy, Jason Kim, Mike Lew, Kenneth Lin, Andrew Lippa, Martyna Majok, Terrence McNally, Conor McPherson, Carly Mensch, Geoffrey Nauffts, Antoinette Nwandu, Dan O'Brien, Sharyn Rothstein, Mat Smart, Victoria Stewart, Jeff Talbott, Lucy Teitler, Ken Urban, Lauren Yee and Martín Zimmerman.
Wilson was a professor in scenic design at Pace University and has been a visiting artist at Barnard College, Northwestern University, NYU Tisch, Rutgers University, SUNY Purchase, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz and Yale School of Drama. He is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829, where he has served on committees negotiating LORT contracts and expanding diversity in design. Wilson received his BA in Architecture from UC Berkeley and MFA from the Yale School of Drama.
